Summer Session 2019

The summer session at Southold Dance Theater offers 3 separate week long camps in addition to a summer session of classes that meet weekly.

Summer Dance Camps ​

Art & Dance Camp

July 15-19, 2019

Ages 3-5: 9:30 a.m. - 11:30a.m.

Ages 6-8: 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Ages 9-11: 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Dance and visual art join forces in this unique collaboration between two of South Bend's cultural gems: Southold Dance Theater and the South Bend Museum of Art. Campers will investigate the connections between movement and art-making while learning the fundamentals of dance and action-art. We will explore the fun ways of moving while making art. 

This camp takes place at Southold Dance Theater each day except Thursday, when camp will be held at the South Bend Museum of Art. 

Ballet Stories

July 22-26, 2019

Ages 3-5

9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

This camp gives young dancers an enchanting summer experience learning about classical ballet and famous fairytale ballets like Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. Each day children take a pre-ballet class and then explore a classical ballet through the characters, storyline, music, and mime. Imagination and creativity are encourage! Camp concludes with a mini-performance of age-appropriate ballet excerpts for friends and family. 

Dance attire is required.

 

Ballet Camp

July 22-26, 2019

Ages 6-8 and 9-11

9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

This camp is perfect for your budding ballerina! Students begin with a classical ballet class, followed by a ballet workshop focused on creative expression and learning famous ballets. The program includes additional classes in acting, jazz, modern, and lyrical. Students will be introduced to ballet costuming, props, and scenery painting, making parts of their own production. The week concludes with an informal mini-performance for family and friends.

Dance attire is required.

Summer Dance Classes

June 17 - July 26 (skipping the week of July 4th)

Creative Movement (ages 3-5)

Tuesdays 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.

A curriculum designed for young dancers that develops and encourages creative movement, nonverbal self-expression, imagination, rhythm, musicality and body awareness. This class meets weekly, skipping the week of July 4th. Ballet shoes and attire are required.

Primary Dance I (ages 5-6)

Tuesdays 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Students develop coordination, creativity, and musicality while beginning to learn foundational ballet vocabulary. This class meets weekly, skipping the week of July 4th. Ballet shoes and attire are required.

Primary Dance II (ages 6-7)

Thursdays 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

This class is a continuation of Primary Dance I, reinforcing ballet positions and movement. This prepares students for admittance into the Classical Ballet division at Southold. This class meets weekly, skipping the week of July 4th. Ballet shoes and attire required.

Beginning Ballet (ages 8-12)

Tuesdays 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Students develop a foundation of classical ballet skills that emphasize proper posture and alignment. Class includes work at the ballet barre, in center, traveling skills, and strengthening exercises. This class meets weekly, skipping the week of July 4th. Ballet shoes and attire are required.

Intermediate/Advanced Ballet (Ages 11+)

June 23-July 25, 2019

Tues/Thurs 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Refine your ballet technique and keep in shape over the summer while enjoying this intermediate/advanced class.  No class on July 4th.

Adult Ballet (Ages 14+)

Tues/Thurs 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

This class is designed for students who wish to begin or continue in dance training for health, recreation, or self-enrichment. No class on July 4th.

Dance Combinations (ages 9-12)

Thursdays 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

This fun class is designed to introduce Ballet, Jazz and Modern dance skills to students from 9-12 years old. In this class, dancers will focus on learning proper techniques as well as improving performance quality. Dance attire and ballet shoes required. This class meets weekly, skipping the week of July 4th.
